PROJECT BRIEF

Create a traditional acrylic painting on canvas of client’s Red Arowana; A4-size with frame

Ms. del Prado asked me one time if she could commission me to work on a sticker set for her best friend’s birthday. It’s to be a surprise and since I adore surprises, I jumped at the opportunity to be part of this entire scheme (also because the sticker set involved dogs).

It was such a joy to draw these two puppers! They have very distinct facial expressions & I couldn’t help but smile while sketching their faces! After sketching them both on paper & showing them to Anna, I transferred both sketches to Photoshop & I started blocking out their base colors.

I always make it a point to make my paintings have enough details – not too much, not too little. In this way, it is stylised, but not that close to realism. It holds my style of cartoonish look & composition. I tend to add lots of colors since I’ve learned from observation that one object does not have just 1 color in it. You have to take into account the bounce of light & dark to make the said object have more depth & character.

Printed the sticker set on satin sticker paper with pearl laminate & it was also laser cut at the printing place! I placed all contents in this envelope that I made & shipped it off to Makati!

Overall: I loved this project to bits! I love surprising people & painting dogs, so this was a joy to work on! I’m also glad that her friend loved the sticker set!
