Skippy the Dog

PROJECT BRIEF

Create a sticker set of the client’s dog, Skippy – 2 illustrations of the dog & 1 stylized painting of the dog’s name.

Skippy is Ms. Hugo’s beloved dog. This white fox look-alike spends most of his time nuzzling his human companion and making his owner feel loved & protected.

He’s adored by Ms. Hugo and rightfully so – I mean, look at that cute face! You can’t really stay mad at a face like that!

I met Ms. Hugo at a Hobonichi Meet. She’s one of my Japan sticker sets buyers! She approached me and asked if I also did customized stickers cause she wanted one of her dog, Skippy, and I immediately said yes!

I love drawing dogs, so this was a fairly enjoyable project to work on. I always start sketching on paper & after approved by the client, I transfer it to Photoshop and start adjusting there.

The painting process didn’t take me awhile, too, but the colors did. Since Skippy is a white-furred dog, it took a bit of planning on what sort of white his fur should be. Should the shadows be more blue-ish white or yellow or green? In the end, I kept adjusting it till both my client & I agreed that the greenish tint was the one that hit the jackpot.

The lettering took a lot of patience & concentration, cause even though I knew that the details wouldn’t really be seen, I still wanted to work hard on it. It took a good amount of time before I could finish all the letters. Totally worth it though!

The end result! I had it printed on a satin sticker paper, packed, & shipped it off to the client!
